Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary

Hey guys! Been a while. 😊

Last March, I got to tick off one of the biggest items on my bucket list. I'd even call it a lifelong dream...I finally saw Mount Everest with my own eyes and trekked all the way to Everest Base Camp.

It was everything I hoped it would be and more. Challenging, humbling, breathtaking... all at the same time. I've got loads of stories to share (and plenty of photos), so I'll write a proper trip report when I finally have the time.

For now, I thought I'd share our itinerary instead. When I was planning this trip, reading other people's itineraries helped me a lot, so hopefully this helps someone who's dreaming of doing EBC too.

We spent 16 days in Nepal because I deliberately built in a few buffer days for the infamous Lukla flight delays. Good thing I did... because, yep, our flight got delayed too. 😂

Anyway, enough rambling. Let's keep this one short. Here's our itinerary.


Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary (14 Days)

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day 2: Fly to Lukla (2,810m) and trek to Phakding (2,610m).
Approx. 7 km hike.
Overnight stay in Phakding.

Day 3: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m).
Overnight stay in Namche.

Day 4: Acclimatization hike to Everest View Hotel (3,880m) and return to Namche.
Overnight stay in Namche.

Day 5: Trek from Namche to Debuche (3,850m).
Approx. 12 km hike.
Overnight stay in Debuche.

Day 6: Trek from Debuche to Dingboche (4,410m).
Approx. 9 km hike.
Overnight stay in Dingboche.

Day 7: Acclimatization hike in Dingboche.
Overnight stay in Dingboche.

Day 8: Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche (5,000m).
Overnight stay in Lobuche.

Day 9: Trek from Lobuche to Gorakshep, continue to Everest Base Camp (EBC), and return to Gorakshep.
Overnight stay in Gorakshep (5,180m).

Day 10: Early morning hike to Kala Patthar.
After breakfast, descend to Pheriche or Pangboche.
Overnight stay in Pheriche or Pangboche.

Day 11: Trek from Pheriche/Pangboche to Namche.
Overnight stay in Namche.

Day 12: Trek from Namche to Lukla.
Overnight stay in Lukla.

Day 13: Fly back to Kathmandu.
Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day 14: Final departure to your home country

Chapter 66: Bukit Batu Sawa, Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan - the one we did in the rain....

Talk about easy hikes with high rewards, Bukit Batu Sawa is exactly that. For those coming from Kuala Lumpur, the drive to Jelebu takes about 1.5 hours. Just plug in "Bukit Sawa Trailhead" on Waze, and it will guide you right to the starting point.  Here’s a tip: if you’re visiting on a weekday when there aren’t many hikers, you can park closer, right by the roadside in front of the trailhead. We didn’t realize this and parked a little further down, but hey, the extra walking time gave us a chance to warm up. I made this trip last Friday with my hiking buddy, Siti. Chapter 65 : Gunung Besar Hantu, Negeri Sembilan - The one that got the worst and the best out of us...

Oh boy, where do I even begin? By now, you probably know I try to hike once or twice a week, usually to easier spots. "Easy" here means no permits, no long drives, and definitely no nights away from home. But every few months, we like to challenge ourselves with a big hike. This time, we decided on Gunung Besar Hantu. Being the highest peak in Negeri Sembilan at 1,426 meters, just the name itself gave me chills. Add to that the daunting 20-kilometer journey to and fro, and I was already nervous. But I thought to myself, if not now, then when?
