Chapter 66: Bukit Batu Sawa, Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan - the one we did in the rain....
Talk about easy hikes with high rewards, Bukit Batu Sawa is exactly that.
For those coming from Kuala Lumpur, the drive to Jelebu takes about 1.5 hours. Just plug in "Bukit Sawa Trailhead" on Waze, and it will guide you right to the starting point.
Here’s a tip: if you’re visiting on a weekday when there aren’t many hikers, you can park closer, right by the roadside in front of the trailhead. We didn’t realize this and parked a little further down, but hey, the extra walking time gave us a chance to warm up.
I made this trip last Friday with my hiking buddy, Siti. It had rained the night before, and the skies still carried a light drizzle when we arrived around 9 AM. The weather wasn’t exactly on our side, but we have a rule. Always show up and let the trail and Mother Nature decide. Sometimes the forecasts are spot on; other times, they’re way off.
If you’re chasing the legendary awan karpet (cloud carpet), you’ll need to come much earlier to catch the sunrise. But even without the dramatic sea of clouds, Bukit Batu Sawa didn’t disappoint.
The hike itself took just 45 minutes. The trail includes a few steep inclines, but ropes are thoughtfully installed to help you up. Along the way, there are several checkpoints with small huts where you can rest, though we didn’t need to stop often. The drizzle kept the air cool and refreshing, perfect for a brisk hike.
What truly struck me was the beauty of this place. The red-tinted trees lining the trail felt almost magical against the soft, misty blue skies. It’s the kind of scenery that lingers in your mind long after you leave. Standing there, surrounded by such serenity, with the smell of fresh rain was an experience I’ll treasure.
We reached the peak and made it our little haven. Out came the portable stove for some hot ramen and coffee that has become our tradition.
There’s something deeply satisfying about a warm meal with a view like that. And oh, the photos we took! Every angle seemed Instagram-worthy.
Short, sweet, and absolutely worth repeating. Was having quite a challenging week at work and that sweet little escape is a reminder that beauty often lies in simplicity.
A quiet trail, a favorite companion, and nature showing off its best was all i needed to a good reset.
Till the next chapter!
